There's a relationship between TIME, TRUST, and profitability in construction and the every-day job information sheet plays a role.

So, I carved out some time today for an ENR webinar, "Transform Your Projects with Field to Office Workflows" featuring Hugh Hofmeister, Grant Puttergill, and Tannis Liviniuk and I was left with some thoughts I'd like to share.

First, I very much appreciated the overall discussion--hard to go wrong bringing together knowledgeable and highly experienced people around a topic, and this was certainly no exception.

Second, I found two related undercurrents in and amongst all the useful tips on the process of implementing digital workflows and leveraging data:

TIME: At some point, Tannis shared that 13% of a construction professional's day is spent just LOOKING for information. Yep, that's 1 hour out of every 8 hour day.

TRUST: Much conversation centered around project teams being able to trust the numbers and data given the challenges and complexities of bringing together various sources of truth, including (or, especially!) multiple versions of a spreadsheet. A significant amount of time is lost validating and re-validating numbers well before being able to act on what the numbers are telling you.

Now, give me a moment to step up on my soapbox. Perfect.

If you're a GC and you'd like to help reduce the overall TIME both you and the industry are spending looking for TRUSTED information --for the love of all that is Holy--invest the energy in preparing and disseminating accurate job information sheets to your trade partners on every project. Why? Because not doing so will spawn an exponential number of emails and calls as the project progresses.

If you're a subcontractor or supplier and you have similar desires to improve the morale and profitability of the entire construction space (and yourself), please pass along that accurate job sheet to all of YOUR subs and suppliers. Not only will this help get you paid faster, you'll also become more attractive, your IQ will skyrocket, and you'll be given VIP status at nightclubs! OK, not really, but getting paid faster is the same thing, right?

Before I hop down, I'd like to invite everyone to share thoughts and experiences so the whole class can prosper.

Thanks!
